As board members, directors take part in discussions and vote on issues that directly impact your certification. As a board, the individual members come together to determine the exam passing score, approve committee appointments, review eligibility criteria, determine GI specific content, and review recertification requirements.

- Member of the Ohio Nursing Summit which is comprised of representatives from nursing organizations through out the state of Ohio. The Summit members come together to discuss issues impacting health care, legislation, nursing and education.
- Shirley has maintained her GI certification since 1990 and continues to be a supporter of SGNA/OSGNA and the certification process by encouraging and mentoring nurses and associates. Shirley also presents monthly at OSUMC Critical Care Nurses continuing education classes on GI Bleed to Digestive Health patients.
