Certified Nurses Day

Celebrate Certified Nurses Day on March 19

Make plans now to acknowledge the certified nurses in your hospital or facility by celebrating Certified Nurses Day on March 19.

March 19th commemorates the birthday of Dr. Margretta “Gretta” Styles RN, EdD, FAAN, one of the greatest leaders of nursing certification. Dr. Styles developed the first comprehensive study of nurse credentialing in the 1970s. She also pioneered the development and implementation of standards and credentials for Nurses, and spearheaded the definitive work of the International Council of Nurses (INC) on nursing regulation. A driving force behind the creation of the American Nurse Credentialing Center (ANCC), Dr. Styles advanced nurse certification services and programs across the US and abroad.

There are numerous ways to celebrate this special day:

Make a “Wall of Distinction” to recognize certified staff

Set up an educational presentation

Have posters in the lobby of your workplace

Wear your certification pin

Make a “certification” cake and share with co-workers
