What is your path to certification?

NAME: Joan Metze, BSN RN CGRN
WORK: Staff nurse, Trihealth Bethesda North
YEARS IN GI: 15
YEARS CERTIFIED IN GI: 1

For Joan, the CGRN was a professional accomplishment that is never too late to achieve.

Certification was a goal that I had set for myself — part of my bucket list. I had been in nursing for over 30 years, before deciding to prepare for the exam, which was a long time away from nursing school and sitting for major tests. I remained motivated to prepare as I was determined to succeed, even keeping with my study routine while I waited to hear if I passed. Now that I am a CGRN, I have more confidence when teaching and interacting with patients through their entire GI procedure. I feel as though my CGRN credentials help define me as an expert both in the specialty and as a clinician. As I tell my colleagues: If I can become certified, YOU can become certified!
