I wanted to go beyond what was expected of me in my “job,” which motivated me to become certified. As a certified GI/endoscopy nurse, I have become involved in my hospital and regional society. It inspired me to be a mentor, leader and better nurse. My physicians gave me additional respect and my fellow nurses see me as a resource. Since being certified since 1997, I have encouraged my nurse colleagues to study and pursue CGRN certification. It takes a commitment to prepare for the exam, one that is well worth the effort! Being certified has been a way for me to get more involved in my profession, in my community, develop best practices for my unit and show my passion for GI!
